A TOIL total is more useful when you can see where it came from. DutyNest keeps earned time, used time and adjustments as separate entries in your personal history.
Core TOIL records are available without making the Free plan a time-limited trial. Premium is optional and both plans are ad-free.
Keep earned and used time separate
Record TOIL earned, taken or adjusted rather than repeatedly overwriting a balance. Where expiry applies, the record can account for time that expires. Confirm your arrangement and dates against your employer's rules before entering them.
Connect the record to overtime
A completed overtime record can be converted once into linked TOIL while preserving both records. That relationship helps explain the balance without treating the same work as two unrelated events. It does not mean your employer has agreed to the conversion.
Correct with an explanation
The balance history uses adjustments rather than silently changing earlier entries. If your personal balance differs from the official one, reconcile the specific earned, used or expired entries before relying on the total. DutyNest is not an employment entitlement calculator.
A practical way to start
- Check that your employer has agreed the relevant TOIL arrangement.
- Record the earned time or link eligible completed overtime.
- Record time used and reconcile the remaining balance with official records.
Does an overtime entry automatically create a TOIL entitlement?
No. Your employer's rules and agreement determine entitlement. The app records your information, not a binding decision.
