A backup, a readable export and a report serve different purposes. DutyNest separates them so you can choose the right kind of copy before changing devices or sharing information.
Local backup, restore, personal-data export and local deletion are available on Free. Premium report exports do not replace these controls.
Backup is for restoring records
The versioned JSON backup carries portable DutyNest data for the app's restore process. Backups are plaintext, so keep them somewhere private. Creating a backup does not automatically store it on DutyNest's servers or make it safe to email to someone else.
Restore is a deliberate replacement
Restore checks the backup format and contents before replacing local records. You must sign out of optional Sync first so an old local backup cannot silently replace newer cloud records. Keep a current recovery copy before making a major change, and read the in-app warnings.
Exports are not all interchangeable
The Free personal-data export is intended for reading and portability. Premium CSV, PDF and calendar report exports cover selected reporting needs. A PDF or calendar file is not a full restore backup. Protect exported notes, names and codes as carefully as the original records.
A practical way to start
- Open Data and privacy and choose the copy you actually need.
- Save a backup to a private location you can find again.
- Before restoring, check its date and follow the in-app validation and Sync warnings.
Does deleting my local data cancel Premium?
No. Store subscriptions must be managed through Apple or Google. Local deletion and cloud-account deletion are separate actions.
