A shift starting tonight and finishing tomorrow belongs to two calendar dates. DutyNest helps you keep those times clear without pretending that night work is an ordinary nine-to-five day.
Core overnight shifts are available on Free. Premium adds deeper night, weekend and long-shift reporting.
Separate the start date from the finish
Record the date the shift starts and its overnight end correctly. In a typical fictional example, N12 starts at 19:00 and finishes at 07:00 the following day. The label describes the scheduled span; unpaid breaks may reduce the recorded paid time.
Make the days between shifts visible
Use rest days alongside day and night entries so you can read the whole cycle. The demo uses two days, two nights and four rest days rather than placing a day shift immediately after a night shift finishes. It is a sample, not a recommendation for your working arrangements.
Keep safety decisions outside the app
DutyNest is not a fatigue assessment, medical service or legal-compliance system. Any rest-gap or long-shift information is general awareness only. Check your official roster, rest arrangements and personal concerns with the appropriate employer or professional.
A practical way to start
- Check whether the finish falls on the following date.
- Save the correct break treatment and shift type.
- Review neighbouring shifts and your official rest arrangements.
Does N12 mean twelve paid hours?
Not necessarily. It represents a twelve-hour scheduled span; an unpaid break changes the paid-time total.
